The Premier's Games Appeal Dinner was a huge success with over one thousand guests attending the event held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Friday the 5th of August.

The BankSA Electronic Silent Auction operated by volunteers from Uni SA and BankSA, contributed incredibly to the final figure of $283, 000 raised on the night.

The state of the art auction system, donated by BankSA, allowed guests to place bids on hand held PDA’s operated by the UniSA volunteers while still at their table, enjoying entertainment from bands ‘The Ego has Landed,’ and ‘Bjorn Again.’ MC’s Mark Bickley and Karl Stefanovic from Channel Nine did a fantastic job of encouraging guests to bid on the huge selection of donated auction items, and support Australian athletes.

Olympians and SASI athletes such as Ryan Mitchell, Wendy Schaeffer, Amber Halliday, Sally Newmarch, Ben Wigmore, Tom Brice, Travis Moran, Rachael Sporn, Andrew Schacht and Mark Ormrod, who donated auction items, thank you, your generosity was greatly appreciated. The support received by these athletes, SASI, and the Office for Recreation and Sport has been vital to the success of this fundraising event. As too, was the support received by the Premier, the Minister for Sport, and the South Australian Government.

After a very hectic few months, the South Australian Olympic Council, and Games Appeal Office, is now finally able to recover from the frantic preparation for the annual Dinner. The office has been busy with Robyn Granger and her dedicated team of volunteers preparing for the event, gathering auction items and organizing guests, entertainment, the menu, catalogue, venue and countless other details that combine to ensure the success of the largest annual corporate black-tie event in South Australia.

Without the generosity and support of the community, and particularly the volunteers who put in so much of their time in preparation of the event, it would not have been possible. Raising $283, 000 is an impressive achievement, and the funds will be used for Australian athletes in their journey to success in the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. Good luck to these athletes in preparation for next year’s events, and thank you to everyone for your generous support. With bookings already beginning for next year’s Premiers Games Appeal Dinner, the night was undoubtedly a huge success, and Friday, August 4th, 2006 is worth marking on your calendars!
