Rob Calleja has driven to 31st place in the opening bobsleigh World Cup of the season in Winterberg, Germany, a promising result in a field of 38.

Calleja and brakeman Shane McKenzie recorded a time of 57.60 seconds for the first run, 1.23 seconds behind first run leader Andre Lange of Germany.

Although Lange was the second fastest sled down the second run, his total time was enough to clinch victory from Swiss driver Martin Annen.

Only the top 20 sleds qualify for the second run.

The second men’s World Cup of the season is in Altenberg next weekend.
