The Pierre de Coubertin Awards is a major programme of the Olympic 2000 Schools Strategy. The program is designed to emphasise participation and commendable sporting behaviour consistent with the Olympic Movement. It is not primarily intended to reward elite performance alone.

Each Queensland secondary school is invited to nominate one student (only) from year 10, 11 or 12 as its Pierre de Coubertin Award nominee. Our aim is to eventually have an Award recipient from every secondary school in the State.

Education Tours

In an attempt to educate the wider community the QOC is frequently involved in education tours throughout the state. Education tours aim to educate Queenslanders on sport, health and the Olympic Movement. Previous tours have included: ‘Olympian Thank-You Tour’ and ‘North Queensland Sport Foundation Tours.’

Alarmed by the increase in childhood obesity the QOC has recently developed a support program and education tours structured specifically at assisting reduce childhood obesity in Queensland. The Queensland Olympic Council aims to increase physical activity of primary school students, educating them about healthier diet choices and encouraging them to take a balanced approach towards leisure activities. The delivery of the program will be conducted by high profile Olympians acting as role models and will be combined with partnering arrangements with current Queensland Education programs.
