Rayner bows out as judo competition gets underway
Chloe Rayner has been knocked out of her debut Olympic campaign in the first round.

JUDO: Chloe Rayner has been knocked out of her debut Olympic campaign in the first round.

The -48kg fighter lost by ippon to Laetitia Payet of France one 1:21 into the bout at Carioca 2 in Barra Olympic Park.

Rayner, who won Commonwealth Games bronze in 2014, moved around the mat with energy early and matched it with the world number 21 in the opening exchanges.

However, Payet then took control as she took Rayner to the mat and secured a yuko before soon claiming the fight.

Next up on the mat for Australia today is Josh Katz in the -60kg division.

In the first judo competition of the Games, the Brazilian crowd was out in force to cheer on their judokas.

Soon after Rayner’s fight, Felipe Kitadi of Brazil secured a dramatic win and the crowd did their best to lift the roof of the arena.
