Reynolds wins bronze in BMX test event

West Australian Lauren Reynolds claimed bronze in the final of the rain-affected BMX test event for the 2012 London Olympics on Saturday.

West Australian Lauren Reynolds claimed bronze in the final of the rain-affected BMX test event for the 2012 London Olympics on Saturday.

British rider Shanaze Reade won the medal race in a time of 38.275 seconds, ahead of second-placed New Zealander Sarah Walker, while 20-year-old Reynolds finished further back in third.

Reynolds was pleased with the result and said it continued her strong preparation ahead of the Games next year.

"I'm very happy really, it's good to get a result and even better to get it here in London one year out from the Olympics," she said.

"(It was) a really hard long day here with the weather and mentally draining but you really had to hold it together and I guess I did that fairly well."

Colombian world champion Mariana Pajon did not finish the race after a heavy fall at Olympic Park, and Reynolds admitted the conditions were far from ideal.

"The conditions were crazy and it was a case of survival on the track," she said.

In the men's final South Australian Sam Willoughby finished sixth despite going into the race as the warm favourite.
