On the 7/11/08, Liverpool West was extremely fortunate to have Robin Bell (the famous Australian white water canoeing champion) visit our school. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
He arrived at approximately 11.30 am, when we were out for lunch. Some of us even got a quick glimpse of him. After lunch, we all rushed to get our chairs, as we were all very excited.
First he spoke about his sporting history, and how he was inspired to start white water canoeing, he also spoke about going to the Sydney, Athens and Beijing Olympic Games and the competitions leading up to each Olympic games.
Following that, he showed us his bronze medal, as he was the first ever Australian male to win a medal in white water canoeing. Everyone was amazed, especially Mrs Mackinnon(principal),Mr Sim(deputy), Mrs Murhan(teacher),Shaahid and Sandra (vice captains) because they were very lucky and got to hold the medal in their hand.
After that, we had the opportunity to ask Robin Bell a couple of questions. He answered all of the questions with great responses.
Then, as his visit was nearly finished, Sandra and Shaahid presented Mr Robin Bell a you can do it wristband- on behalf of Liverpool West, as we strongly believe that he demonstrates all of the You Can Do It foundations. They are resilience, organisation, persistence, getting along and confidence. We also presented him a gift (it was chocolates) and some cards that students from 5/6M had made.
Finally, as everyone prepared to leave, Mr Robin Bell was very kind and signed some autographs. It was a fantastic day!
