ROWING: On Day 2 at the Nanjing Rowing-Canoeing School, Australian rowers showed their form on the 1000m course at the second summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing China.

On a drizzly day, the green and gold were represented in the repechage event of the men’s single sculls and the women’s pair.

A long distance specialist, Tom Schramko altered his technique and equipment to improve on the previous day’s performance in the men’s single sculls.

“I am really pleased with the row,” Schramko said.

“Overnight we changed the boat set up and then today during the race increased my stroke rate frequency.”

The 17-year-old finished two boat lengths ahead and advances to the semi finals tomorrow.

Looking up to the friendly giant, who stands at 203cm, his coach was not intimidated and told the athlete ‘we are here to sprint so drop the schrammer’.

In Heat 2 of women’s pairs Tyler and Miller Ferris, 17-year-old twins from Queensland finished in fifth place, 16.44 seconds behind the winners from Romania.

The Ferris twins row in the repechage event tomorrow on Day 3 of competition at the Youth Olympic Games.
