The 23-year-old Sydney slider had a disappointing opening run, posting a time of 58.17 seconds for 17th place, but hit back in the second run with the sixth fastest time, 57.97 seconds.

AIS team-mate Michelle Steele had the second fastest start time in both runs, but was unable to convert that into a top ten finish, ending the day in 18th place.

The Hobart-based 22-year-old was in 12th place after the opening run, but slipped to 18th place in a second run that was below her best form.

Canadian Melissa Hollingsworth collected the Lake Placid gold with a two-run time of 1 minute 54.85, 0.23 seconds ahead of Great Britain slider Shelley Rudman.

Germany’s Marion Trott claimed the bronze.

The third World Cup of the season will be held on the Torino 2006 Olympic track of Cesana in the first week of December.
