Joh Shaw has been narrowly ousted from a top ten parallel giant slalom placing in Stoneham, Canada, but retains a top ten spot on the world rankings.

Shaw qualified in 11th place overall, then came up against Russian Alena Kuleshova in the head-to-head round of 16.

The 26-year-old Australian Institute of Sport rider won the first heat, finishing 0.25 seconds ahead of her opponent.

But in the second heat, Kuleshova turned the tables, winning by exactly the same margin and tying the round.

As the slower rider in the qualifying rounds, Shaw was eliminated and the Russian progressed to the quarter final round.

Shaw finished in 11th place overall, but the result lifted her one place on the World Cup standings to eighth.

Germany’s Amelie Kober won the event from Japanese rider Tomoka Takeuchi, with World Cup leader Doris Guenther claiming the bronze.

Guenther now sits on 4890 points for the season after collecting four victories and another podium from the seven events contested so far.

Takeuchi is in second position on 3450 points, while Shaw is on 1966 points.

The riders now head to Sunday River in Maine for the next event on Friday morning Australian time.
