AOC: His Excellency Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), has been awarded an Olympic Merit from the Australian Olympic Committee.

In Sydney for the 59th Meeting of the ANOC Executive Council, the ANOC President was presented with the award by Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) President, John Coates in front of ANOC guests and members of the Olympic Solidarity Commission at a dinner at the home of prominent Sydney businessman, John Symond.

The Executive of the Australian Olympic Committee saw fit to give Sheikh Ahmad the AOC Order of Merit for his remarkable contribution to the development of sport.

In his remarks Coates affectionately called Sheikh Ahmad just the second “foreigner” to receive an AOC Order of Merit. The only other non-Australian recipient is current IOC President Jacques Rogge who led an ANOC delegation to Brisbane, Australia in 2003.

Members from Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania are in Sydney for four days of meetings.
