Organisers of Torino 2006 are thrilled with the spectator response on the first two days of the Games.
More than 50,000 spectators turned out to events in Torino and the mountain venues on 12 February (Day 2), with both the men’s downhill at Sestriere Borgata and the women’s ice hockey match between Germany and the USA in Torino virtually sold out.
Ticket sales continue to climb with another 9,000 snapped up on Day 2 for a total of 775,000 tickets sold – well exceeding the pre-Games target of 650,000.
Games organisers, TOROC said in a press briefing that spectators were primarily using designated public transport to get to the Venues.
On Day 2 spectators took 20,000 train trips to and from mountain venues, and 1000 buses ferried fans on 5,529 runs across the Olympic transport network.
All 15 sports are now underway at the XX Olympic Winter Games.
