Australia was well-represented in gymnastics, having sent thirteen gymnasts – the most in Australia’s Olympic history – to compete in the Women’s and Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline Gymnastics and Rhythmic Gymnastics.
In the Women’s Artistic competition, the team of Breanna Scott, Emma Nedov, Emily Whitehead, Kate McDonald and Ruby Pass left it all out on the floor, finishing 10th in the qualifying competition and narrowly missing out on qualification to the Team Final.
In the Individual All-Around Final, Ruby recorded the best result for an Australia since Beijing 2008, placing 13th with a final score of 53.798.
The Men’s Artistic competition saw Jesse Moore make his Olympic debut, qualifying as the first Australian to the Individual All-Around final since London 2012, where he placed 21st with a score of 80.430.
In the Trampoline Gymnastics competition, Brock Batty made history as the youngest trampolinist to ever compete in an Olympic Games, finishing in 13th at the end of qualification.
Alexandra Kiroi-Bogatyreva displayed vibrant energy and creative routines at the Rhythmic Gymnastics Individual All-Around qualifications, with her four routines seeing her finish with a score of 114.350 to place 22nd.
In the Group event, Lidiia Iakovleva, Phoebe Learmont, Saskia Broedelet, Emmanouela Frroku and Jessica Weintraub finished a commendable 11th, the best ever result for an Australian Team.
