The 2014 Australian Youth Olympic Team is being well supported by their school peers.
The Team has received over 300 pieces of artwork created by primary school students from around the country.
“It is wonderful to know that primary students have created artwork in support of the Team,” Chef de Mission Susie O’Neill said.
“On behalf of the Team, I would like to thank the students and their schools for taking time out to decorate the Olympic Village.”
The artwork will be displayed in the Australian section of the Youth Olympic Village in Nanjing and greet the athletes every day during the Games.
The messages of support on the artwork will inspire and encourage the athletes to do their best.
“The artwork is patriotic,” O’Neill said.
“There is lots of green and gold, kangaroos and messages such as ‘try your best’, ‘ go for gold’, and ‘Go Australia,’.”
Students from Eaton Primary School sent a special poster containing a message of support as well as the signatures of students from the upper primary years.
“Eaton Primary School, Years 3, 4, and 5 students wish the Australian Youth Olympic Team to Go for Gold”.
Participating schools have received a letter of thanks from the Australian Olympic Committee as well as a set of Australian Olympic Education posters.
