Freestyle skier, Katya Crema, visited her niece’s school, St Clement of Rome Catholic Primary School as part of the AOC’s Olympic Day celebrations.
Crema showed the students her competition uniform and allowed several of them to try it on.
"When I was wearing Katya's outfit, I felt I was an Olympian – I felt like I had won a gold medal,” primary student Topaz Crema said.
Crema attended the school assembly and spoke to 300 primary school students about her Olympic experience as a freestyle skier and the wonderful opportunities sport has created for her.
“Anything’s possible,” was her advice to the students. “If you put your mind to it you can achieve anything.”
The 21-year-old enjoyed her day immensely.
“I enjoy the fact that I can give back to the community,” Crema said. “I hope by sharing my experiences I can inspire people to do great things.”
Crema is in the midst of organising a visit to her own primary school Middle Park Primary School next week.
Olympic Day is celebrated around the world on 23 June each year. The day educates students about the importance of healthy lifestyles and participating in sport.
This year the Australian Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission is supporting the event by encouraging fellow Olympians to ‘get back to school’ and share with students their Olympic experience and the positive impact sport has had on their lives.
