Melinda Cleland, a member of the Flying Kangaroos, reports on team training in Utah. The Australian Aerial Ski Team has kicked off training this year in Park City, USA, making a successful start in the first of four water ramping camps scheduled throughout the northern hemisphere summer. The squad of 10 girls is training at Utah’s Olympic Park.

Head Coach Todd Ossian is back in action after taking a well-earned break over the winter season. Daniel Murphy has also joined the team after temporarily filling Ossian’s position on the World Cup circuit.

Also new to the team are development athletes Kate Bender, Denita Mudge and Jen Schaefer who are training alongside the rest of the team. Each of the girls has made big progress on the single, working intensively on technique and consistency.

Lydia Ierodiaconou, Elizabeth Gardner, Shannon Leotta, Lainie Cole, Jacqui Cooper and Melinda Cleland have all moved onto the double and are each working on appropriate skills. Alisa Camplin briefly joined the team during the camp to brush up on some training during her time off.

Overall the camp was productive and each team member made valuable improvements.

Trudy McIntosh is still in recovery from a knee reconstruction in February. She is currently at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra rehabilitating and is making great progress.
