SHOOTING: Day 2 at the shooting hall saw New South Welshman, Chris Summerell enter the qualification round of the Men’s 10m Air Pistol at the second summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Nanjing, China.

Summerell was required to shoot 60 shots in 75 mins and was able to put together a score of 561, just a few points off his personal best.

“I was pretty happy with most of it, it was a really good experience,” he said.

“I got some really good targets, really close to my personal best which was good. You have to be happy with that at an international.”

Summerell came agonizingly close to progressing to the final but unfortunately fell just short.

Despite not getting exactly what he came for, Summerell can still see the positives that come from his time at the Games.

“I was only trying to go as good as I can, I wasn’t expecting anything better than what I could do. I was just aiming for a personal best and I was pretty close.”

Summerell’s mum and sister made the journey to Nanjing to watch him shoot and felt the pressure of every trigger pull just like he did.

“It was really good to have family here for support, it felt like I was just shooting at home again which made it a lot easier."

Although he no longer progresses in the Men’s 10m Air Pistol competition, the teen’s time at the YOG is not over just yet.

He begins training for the mixed international event, where he’s quietly confident he and his teammate can get a good result.
