Following her breakthrough medal performance in Pontresina, Esther Bottomley has gone on to win her first FIS race in Europe, cleaning up in the Swiss Cup sprint freestyle race in Feutersoey.

Bottomley posted the fastest qualifying time by half a second - albeit without the Swiss World Cup skiers competing - and then out-sprinted Swiss B-team member Ursina Badilatti in the A-final.

The only other Australian to have won a Swiss Cup race has been Paul Gray in Maloja back in 1992.

The other team member in Feutersoey, Nick Grimmer, qualified 13th in the time trial, 13 seconds off the fastest qualifier, making a FIS sprint final for the first time outside of Australia. (Story with the assistance of The XC Files)
