TABLE TENNIS: Australian table tennis players Vy Bui and Dominic Huang are out of the singles event after losing their first knockout matches in the consolation draw.

Both players finished equal 25th after Bui, from South Australia, went down 3-1 to Poland’s Natalia Bajor while teammate Huang, from Victoria, lost 3-0 to Elia Schmid from Switzerland.

Sixteen-year-old Huang says all is not lost and he has so much to take away from his Youth Olympic Games experience so far.

“Being out of the singles I have to say is disappointing but already being here competing against the world’s best is a great achievement for me,” he said.

“I am pleased with my performance; I challenged some players far stronger than me so I am satisfied with my performance.”

University student Bui says she too is disappointed but has not lost sight of her dreams.

“My ultimate goal is to make Rio 2016,” the 18-year-old said.

“I didn’t play as well as I usually do in a competition so it really makes me want to train harder and it shows that I need to improve on a lot aspects.”

The pair now have a rest day before they team up the mixed doubles on Wednesday evening at the Wutaishan Sports Gymnasium.
