Taylor Worth will compete alongside the final 16 archers at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

A two-time winner in elimination rounds at Yumenoshima Park Archery Field today, the Rio 2016 bronze medallist is the only remaining Australian in the race for medals.

Worth commenced his campaign today with a straight sets victory over Alviyanto Pratsyadi (IND), delivering no less than four tens and five nines for points in each of the three sets he shot.

He returned to the competition arena an hour later to duel with Shaoxuan Wei (CHN), and after a close five sets, confirmed his advance to the next round. The five-set score was 28-28, 27-24, 27-28, 27-27 and 27-23.

“It’s part one and two of the job, but I’ve still got a lot more to do,” Worth said.

Worth was pleased to find his rhythm on the third day of his competition schedule, after challenging outings in the individual ranking rounds and the Men’s Team competition.

“I’m happy with my shooting now, I wish I could have had this feeling a few days ago with the team and I apologise to them for that. I’ve just got to keep it simple going forward,” Worth added.

“You are by yourself out there in the individual rounds and you need to internalise that focus and trust your gut. You have to get the job done as best you can, it was good to do that.

“To have those extra few days from the ranking and team rounds, to reset and let the emotion of that go allowed me to refocus. It has been helpful and gave me insight on how to perform in the field.”

Worth was joined in the Men’s Individual match play by Ryan Tyack and David Barnes, with Tyack advancing to the 1/16 round before losing to Mete Gazoz (TUR) in five sets. Barnes was unable to progress from the 1/32 round.

Australia’s quartet of archers was rounded out by Alice Ingley.

Ingley lined up against Ksenia Perova in the 1/32 round of the Women’s Individual match play and was nudged out in four sets, with a score of 7-1.
