TENNIS: The AOC has today selected Anastasia and Arina Rodionova to the Australian Tennis team for the 2016 Olympic Games due to withdrawals within the women’s doubles event.

The sisters will be the ninth set of siblings in the Australian Olympic Team with Anastasia (34) participating in her second Olympics whilst younger sister Arina (26) will be making her Olympic debut.

“It is very exciting to hear today that Anastasia and Arina have earned a place and we be a part of our Australian Tennis team,” said Chef de Mission of the Australian Olympic Team, Kitty Chiller.

“This takes our tennis team to nine players and we will now have two entries in the women’s doubles event, the Rodionova sisters will join Samantha Stosur and Daria Gavrilova who performed strongly in Montreal last week.”

The sisters last played together in the 2016 French Open and arrangements are presently being made for them to arrive in Rio in the coming days.

The Olympic Tennis competition begins on Day 1 – Saturday, August 6 with the women’s doubles scheduled to begin on Day 2.
