South Australian Premier Mike Rann has challenged South Australian students to read twelve books...
South Australian Premier Mike Rann has challenged South Australian students to read twelve books between the start of the school year and September the 9th.
Students from 510 schools across the state have committed to the challenge hoping to exceed the record of 50, 000 students completing the task last year. Successful students will receive a certificate signed by the Premier, and after four successful completions of the challenge, will receive a gold medal in reading.
The Premiers Reading Challenge promotes reading to children in an attempt to boost literacy rates in South Australian students, and the commitment of ambassadors to the cause is proving to be of fantastic encouragement to the students.
Olympians Rachael Sporn, Juliette Haslam, Brooke Billett, Ben Wigmore, Andre Schacht, and Travis Moran are committed ambassadors of the program, and have been visiting the schools of students, reading and speaking to them, and are soon to begin presenting awards.
The Premiers Reading Challenge is an annual event, and hopefully Olympians will continue their support and participation in this important challenge.
The Role of the Ambassadors:
- to be at the launch
- to appear on the promotional material and on the website providing biographical details
- to promote the Premiers Reading Challenge as part of your work with students
- to be at the Premiers reception in fourth term
- to make at least 2 promotional visits to schools each year- these schools can be of your choice
- to make 1 visit to a school to present certificates to students who have completed the Challenge
- you may like to mention your role as an ambassador for the Premiers Reading Challenge on your own websites and have a link to the Premiers Reading Challenge Website
- you may have other ideas of how you could promote the Challenge
- to be at the Premiers Reception in November to celebrate with schools who have had an outstanding number of students completing the Premiers Reading Challenge.
