Australians wanting to attend the Beijing Olympics will be able to purchase tickets shortly and indications are they are going to be snapped up quickly.

Beginning mid-April, CoSport, the official ticket and hospitality agent of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), will start selling Olympic event tickets, and ticket & accommodation packages.

CoSport tested the market between December 06 and March 07 and says it received an overwhelming reaction from the Australian public when it asked for “expressions of interest” from people wanting to buy Olympic tickets.

“We are thrilled and surprised with the overwhelming response that we have had from our expression of interest phase of our ticket sales campaign, especially the Opening and Closing Ceremony,” said Kevin Steele, President of CoSport.

CoSport received requests for 14,070 tickets from the Australian public. For the opening ceremony, they received requests for 1,290 tickets and for the closing ceremony they received requests for 437 tickets.

The high demand sporting events included 3,495 tickets requested for swimming, 2,104 tickets for athletics and 818 tickets for artistic gymnastics.

“It has been tremendously encouraging to see the enthusiasm that Australian residents have demonstrated in wanting to attend the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. We are proud to be able to provide this rarified access to the Olympic Games to the Australian public,” Steele said.

“It is quite evident, however” Steele continued, “that at this point, we are already oversubscribed in the Ceremonies and high demand events.”

From mid-April to mid-July, CoSport will accept individual ticket requests at www.cosport.com.au.

The Games are less than 500 days away and we are excited to commence our ticket and package sales and countdown to the eagerly awaited Beijing 2008 Olympic Games,” said Sead Dizdarevic, Chairman CEO of CoSport.

“We are excited about our partnership with the Australian Olympic Committee and we will offer the Australian public unparalleled service and access to tickets.”

All information needed to secure Olympic Games tickets and ticket & accommodation packages, including competition schedules, venue information, event times and pricing, is available on the CoSport website at www.cosport.com.au.
