Three of Australia's four Rio-bound taekwondo athletes have claimed podium finishes at the Spanish Open in Alicante, Spain.

TAEKWONDO: Three of Australia's four Rio-bound taekwondo athletes have claimed podium finishes at the Spanish Open in Alicante, Spain. 

Hayder Shkara won each of his four fights to claim the men's -80kg division as he continues to build for his debut Olympic Games in Rio.

In what was a tightly contested final, Shkara claimed the bout 1-0 over Moises Hernandez of the Dominican Republic to win gold.

London 2012 Olympian Safwan Khalil won his opening two fights before going down to Domincan Republic athlete Luis Pie in the men's -58kg division to claim bronze.

Dual Olympian and 2013 World Champion Carmen Marton went down in golden point in the semi-final of the women's -67kg division which saw her claim bronze.

Carmen's sister Caroline, who will make her Olympic debut in Rio, went down in golden point to eventual bronze medallist Hakima El Meslahy of Morocco.

The four athletes will now turn their attention to this weekend's German Open in Hamburg.
