TRACK CYCLING: Australia’s reigning women's team and individual pursuit world champions finalised their preparations for the World Championships in London with their last training session on Tuesday afternoon.
Six-time world champion Cameron Meyer (WA), plus three-time world champion Glenn O'Shea (SA) also hit the track for a final time before the team goes into competition mode for Wednesday's opening day.
Glenn O'Shea (SA) completed his final training session before his campaign gets underway with the men's scratch race on night one. O'Shea will also line up in the men's omnium which begins on Friday.
"There is a world title up for grabs, that is the number one priority," said O'Shea. "And of course there is the added benefit of getting a feel for the competition, getting out on the bunch bike, a good hit out before the omnium."
Reigning individual pursuit world champion Rebecca Wiasak (ACT) completed her final hit out ahead of her title defence on Wednesday.
"We had some really positive signs on the track today, the whole team is feeling really good," said Wiasak who will also act as a reserve for the team pursuit which gets underway on Thursday. "There is a great vibe in the team at the moment so we will be feeding off each other's energy.
"Really looking forward to racing tomorrow."
The team pursuit quartet of Annette Edmondson (SA), Amy Cure (TAS), Ashlee Ankudinoff (NSW) and Georgia Baker (TAS) also completed their training under the watchful eyes of Gary Sutton and Ian McKenzie.
"Looking forward to racing here in London, it is an honour to be racing here with the defending world championship team," said debutant Baker.
"Had a pretty good session today, considering the track isn't too fast in here at the moment, but as it heats up we are sure to see some pretty fast times" said dual reigning world champion Annette Edmondson who will commence her omnium defense on Saturday.
"Looking at the team pursuit right now, once that is done and dusted then I will start looking at the omnium. I like to take things one step at a time."
