Kelsey-Lee Barber Podcast

It was just last week that Kelsey-Lee Barber became Australia’s first ever World Champion in javelin, when she won gold at the Doha 2019 Athletics World Championships. In the latest episode of Tokyo Unleashed, she talks to David Culbert about her humble beginnings growing up in the country, overcoming injury and finding her form.

After suffering a stress fracture to her back, Kelsey-Lee Barber’s road to Rio 2016 was anything but linear. Feeling like she was playing catch up leading into her first Olympic Games, Barber was disappointed with her results, finishing 13th in the qualifying rounds where her Olympic competition came to an end.

Now, Barber is back on top as Australia’s first javelin World Champion and eyeing off a second Games at Tokyo 2020, crediting the chemistry with her coach and husband Mike Barber as one of the main factors in her recent rise to success.
