'The Vortex' was one of the masterpieces of the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games.
The ring shaped building housed almost 2000 athletes and officials at the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games.
Reaching 27m in height and with a circumference of 430m, the building has a total surface area of 36,700m². Around an inside courtyard of 4,000m² the building has one single 2.8km long spiral-shaped ramp which accesses all apartments.
The Youth Olympic Village was based in the heart of the University of Lausanne’s campus, and will become the home for 1000 university students, professions and guests following the Winter Games.
From a roof-top recovery centre with Lake Geneva views, to a state of the art medical clinic and Olympic Channel televisions studio, The Vortex had everything the Youth Olympic athletes could possibly need at the Games.
Lausanne 2020 Aussie biathletes Chelsey Johnson and David Patterson gave us a tour of the impressive Village.
