The Aussie Spirit has defeated Canada 6-4 to win the 2006 Canada Cup back-to-back.

The Canada bats got some early hits away with a home run in the top of the third and then scoring in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.

Australia replied in the bottom of the fourth with co-captain Natalie Ward scoring to bring Canada’s lead back to one run.

Australia’s bats were on fire in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs from five hits. Stacey Porter scored a two-run home run, bringing home Simmone Morrow.

Later in the innings, Natalie Titcume moved to second when Tracey Mosley singled, with Danielle Stewart replacing Mosley on base. Marissa Carpadios stepped up to the plate with two runners on base and hit a three-run home run, bringing home Titcume and Stewart to take Australia to a 6-2 lead.

The Canada bats hit another two runs in the top of the seventh, one a home run, but were unable to convert the four hits to runs to force Australia to bat again.

The Aussie Spirit remained undefeated throughout the championship, winning eleven games from eleven. Last year, at the 2005 Canada Cup, the Aussies defeated USA Elite in the final 3-0 with a 10 win two loss record.

The team is now heading to Oklahoma to compete in the US World Cup which takes place from 13-17 July.

Australia will be up against the USA, Japan, China, Canada and Great Britain.
