Canada’s men’s Ice Hockey team has avoided an embarrassing scare as they defeated Switzerland in a shootout after a 2-2 draw at the end of regulation time.

Switzerland came back from a two goal deficit through two goals to Patrick von Gunten and held off the feisty Canucks through the heroics of goaltender Jonas Hiller.

“It was just one of those nights when he (Hiller) was in the zone,” said Canadian superstar Sidney Crosby.

Crosby, the 2007 NHL Most Valuable Player, scored the winning goal in the shootout, ensuring that the Canadian team’s campaign remains on track.

In the earlier game, a powerful performance by Brian Rafalski has helped the United States to a crushing 6-1 victory over Norway.

The USA are undefeated through their two games this Olympics, meaning that one more win will secure them a quarter final berth.

Phil Kessel, Chris Drury, Patrick Kane and Ryan Malone were the other players to score for the USA, with Marius Holtet scoring Norway’s consolation goal.

The USA now face off against Canada in the last game of their group on Day 10 (Sunday 21 February), in a match that will decide who tops the group.
