Leading Australian sports doctor Brian Corrigan has passed away aged 87.
Long revered as one of the finest in his field, Corrigan had a long association with the Olympic movement.
He headed to his first Games in 1968 and was a part of six Olympic Teams, five with Australia and one with Papua New Guinea.
His expertise was crucial at the Mexico City Games where he devised programs to ensure the Australian athletes could handle the altitude.
Corrigan was also Australian soccer’s doctor for 30 years, worked with the Australian Cricket Team, World Series Cricket and the Manly Sea Eagles.
He is an inductee in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame and the Soccer Hall of Fames.
He was also heavily involved in dealing with drugs in sport. He was Chairman of the Drugs in Sport Committee (1985-89) and Chairman of the Australian Sports Drug Agency (1989-91).
