Volleyroos ready to take on world's best
Australia's volleyball men are set to launch their 2015 World Cup campaign in Hiroshima.

VOLLEYBALL: Australia's volleyball men are set to launch their 2015 World Cup campaign in Hiroshima, determined to put the disappointment of last month's Asia Cup behind them.

But the Volleyroos will have to do it with the youngest and most inexperienced squad at the tournament, with an average age of 23.

The Australians finished fifth in Iran after starting as one of the pre-event favourites for the Asian championships.

Coach Roberto Santilli says everyone is disappointed with the result but the World Cup will be a chance for the team to bounce back.

"I'm not the only one to be disappointed, the players were disappointed too," Santilli said on Monday on the eve of his side's opening match against the USA.

"We had a feeling we could do something better but we didn't. You get some frustration from sport when you don't get the results you expect exactly.

"But this is one of the good things of sport, that even if you fail something, the day after you have a chance to play again. Everybody is pretty sure we can have a good competition here."

Every team plays 11 games in 15 days in Japan, with the top two qualifying for next year's Olympics.

Santilli said his goal will be to win five or six games.

"We are the youngest team at this World Cup, so we have to adapt our ideas around us having a lot of young guys without much experience.

"But I'm feeling the team is really motivated, the chemistry inside the team is pretty good.

"Of course we will be playing against some of the best teams in the world but we will also be playing a lot of other teams. It will be very interesting for us to check the level of our young guys here."

Reigning World Champions the USA will start short-priced favourites for Tuesday's match and are one of the teams Santilli believes will be vying for a top-two finish.
