VOLLEYBALL: One of the biggest months in Australian volleyball history will kick off this weekend when the world’s best volleyball team, Brazil, takes on Australia’s Volleyroos in Sydney.
The two matches are a part of the world's elite volleyball competition, the FIVB World League, and are providing the Aussies with valuable experience against the world's best with the Rio 2016 Games just over 400 days away.
"Brazil is the toughest test you can get,” Tom Edgar said.
“It’s going to be a great experience for us to play in Sydney against the best team in the world but we are definitely coming out to win.”
Having travelled to Brazil, Serbia and Italy throughout the tournament, the Volleyroos will now face the Brazilians on the 27th and 28th of June before taking on Serbia on the 4th and 5th of July.
The arrival of the flamboyant Brazilians in Sydney this week is certain to be a highlight on Australia’s volleyball history calendar.
“I heard we are going to have a great crowd in Sydney which I am really looking forward to because we had a great experience in Adelaide earlier this year.
“We hope that we can get a packed out house for sure."
The last time the South Americans were in Australia was the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, when they finished sixth overall.
Having won the 2008 and 2012 Olympic silver medalists, the Brazilians command a huge crowd wherever they play with current ticket sales for both matches reflecting the excitment of Australian volleyball fans in seeing their home side take it to the world's best.
The Volleyroos have won one of their opening eight matches in the round robin tournament after they upset the Italians in Jesolo.
In the women’s department, the Australian women’s indoor team will compete in the prestigious World Grand Prix for the second time, kicking off their campaign in Kazakhstan, with matches against the host nation, Cuba and Algeria.
