Our very own gold and silver medallists Logan Martin and Jake Whetton are among 10 elite Australian athletes vying for the Sports Dad of the Year award to be announced on Father's Day on Sunday, September 5.
Now in its 13th year, the award showcases the contribution Australia's sporting elite make to their families both on and off the field. Last year's winner was South Sydney Rabbitohs captain Adam Reynolds who donated his winnings to Save our Sons, the organisation fighting every day for a cure to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
The Sports Dad of the Year will highlight 10 elite athletes across a range of sports, giving insights into how they juggle fatherhood with their sporting commitments.
This year's nominated Sports Dads will be profiled on sportsdads.com.au which will include questions and answers from the players about their families, as well as some comments from the athletes' family.
All voters have the opportunity to win special prizes for their own father this Father's Day, with the winning Sports Dad of the Year receiving $5,000 to donate to their charity of choice.
We asked BMX wizard Logan how much his recent Olympic gold medal meant to his family. “It takes a great team behind the scenes for accomplishments like this,” Logan said of his gold medal Tokyo performance.

“My wife Kimberley played a huge part in making this happen and essentially Noah (2) did too because he completes my life and I went into the Olympics very content in every part of my life.
”Kimberly then went onto say, Logan’s best asset is his desire to make sure Noah and his future sibling are going to have the best future possible. His motivation and dedication will be something his children will look up to.”
Kookaburra sliver Medallist Jake is the father of Felix (2) and Marlee (almost 1), who love sport just as much as him. “Felix is an absolute sports nut,” Jake says.
“He started playing hockey this year and we were so proud of him for joining in with some of the older kids throughout the year. We love going to the pitch-and-putt golf course and watching him smack the golf ball further than some people we see there which is very funny.

“As for Marlee she is very independent, she loves getting into most things she isn’t meant to whether it’s the dogs water or the dirt outside… I love watching her do her own thing.”
Jake's wife, Sam Whetton, added, “Jake is the domesticated one and does all of the house work. He always tries to make sure the kids and I are looked after and things are easy for us. Little things like making sure my car is filled with petrol, there are enough nappies and wipes for the kids as well as taking the dogs to the park every day and making sure they have enough food.”
Voting closes on Tuesday, August 31, and the Sports Dad of the Year winner will be announced on Father's Day.
