The first full foiling Nacra world championship was won narrowly by Britain’s Ben Saxton and Katie Dabson on Sunday at La Grande Motte in France. They began the final day with a four-point lead and came second in the medal race to secure the title ahead of Fernando Echavarri and Tara Pacheco of Spain.
Waterhouse and Darmanin just missed the cut for the medal race, ending a challenging campaign, in which many crews had limited preparation time and were further tested by the organisers' late changes to the make-up of the Olympic class catamarans. Lisa's younger brother Paul Darmaninand crew Lucy Copeland finished 34th.
“It was a frustrating week for us not sailing to our potential,” Lisa Darmanin said.
“But we haven't had much racing practice since the Olympics so we're making simple racing errors combined with a few speed issues in the light wind.
“We’ll have a few weeks off and review what we’ve learnt the past three months and recharge the batteries so we’re ready to make the most of the Aussie summer before getting back in touch with the fleet at the Miami World Cup in January.”
