BOXING: Australia is guaranteed at least one boxer at this year’s Olympic Games after Commonwealth Games gold medallist Shelley Watts won her semi-final at the Asian and Oceania qualifiers in China.

An excited Watts jumped in the air and then knelt down and kissed the canvas after two out of the three judges awarded her the win in her bout against Thailand’s Tassamalee Thongjan.

Earlier fellow Australian, Daniel Lewis, was unlucky to lose a points decision to hometown favourite, Minggang Zhao.

However his Olympic dream is still alive, he will now box off for a bronze medal on Friday, which would also qualify Australia a place in Rio.

A third Australian, Jason Whateley, will contest his semi-final later tonight.
