GYMNASTICS: Abbie Watts has finished in sixth place in the women’s trampoline gymnastics with a total score of 49.170 in the final on Thursday.

GYMNASTICS: Abbie Watts has finished in sixth place in the women’s trampoline gymnastics with a total score of 49.170 in the final on Thursday.

With competition taking place all on one day, Watts’ Youth Olympic Games experience was short lived but very successful.

Finishing second overall in the first qualification round, Watts out performed 10 of the best Youth gymnasts across the globe with a score of 42.905, 1.34 points behind Russia’s Maria Zakharchuk.

The second qualifying round had Watts perform two routines, the first of which she again slipped into second place with a high execution score of 26.100.

However in the second routine the 17-year-old ranked 7th with an overall score of 48.630 a whopping six and a bit points under the top performance by Chinese gymnast Xueying Zhu.

Nevertheless the Western Australian qualified sixth place heading into the final where she pulled out another stellar performance to finish sixth.

Medals went to Xueying Zhu (CHN), Rana Nakano (JPN) and Maria Zakharchuk (RUS) respectively.
