Football: Olyroos seal Olympic comeback
The Olyroos earned their first Olympic Games since Beijing 2008 with a 1-0 victory over Uzbekistan in the AFC U-23 bronze medal playoff in Thailand.
With the top three teams booking their place in Tokyo, the Olyroos won the tense battle, thanks to a sublime goal from Nick D’Agostino in the 47th minute.

Judo: Haecker wins historic first-ever gold for Australia
Katharina Haecker made history as the first Australian judoka to win a Grand Prix gold medal, taking out the Tel Aviv Grand Grand Prix title.
Haecker defeated four opponents including the number one seed, Martyna Trajdos from Germany before beating Canadian and ten-time Judo World Tour medallist Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard within a minute in the final.
"I can’t put into words what this means to me and how proud I am to achieve this for my country," she said.
"People keep saying, 'Your dreams are too big,' but they couldn’t be more wrong. Dream big, work hard and never settle.”

Winter Sports: Brockhoff, James and Coady have golden weekend for Winter Olympians
Belle Brockhoff won an emotional comeback boardercross World Cup gold in Canada, Scotty James extended his unbeaten run to 10 with an X-Games victory in Aspen and Tess Coady completed an epic return from injury to claim her first-ever World Cup win in slopestyle in Italy’s Seiser Alm.
In a brilliant return to form after two ACL reconstructions, Brockhoff won gold on day two of the World Cup in Canada’s Big White, after claiming a nailbiting silver on day one.

Cycling: Richie Porte wins Tour Down Under
Richie Porte won the 2020 Tour Down Under with an impressive final attack in Willunga Hill, winning the leader’s ochre jersey from South Africa’s Daryl Impey on the tour’s final day, while Porte finished second on the stage behind Englishman Matthew Holmes.
The first time Porte has been beaten on Willunga Hill in seven years, the second place was more than enough to secure his overall victory.

The Tour also saw gun sprinter Caleb Ewan win two stages on top of the Tour prelude Schwalbe Classic.
World Championship silver medallist Bec McConnell also took out gold at the weekend’s cross country mountain bike Oceania Championships, overcoming a mechanical problem on her first lap to defend her Oceania title.
Compatriot Holly Harris took the bronze, behind New Zealand’s Josie Wilcox.
Kiwi Anton Cooper took out the men’s race, ahead of Australian pair Cameron Ivory and Dan McConnell.
Golf: Double delight as Leishman and Herbert win
Marc Leishman and Lucas Herbert won tour titles in a white-hot weekend for Australian golf.
Leishman shot a sizzling seven-under 65 to win the Farmers Open at Torrey Pines, overcoming an overnight deficit of four shots heading into the final day, beating out world number two Rory McIlroy, number three Jon Rahm and number seven Tiger Woods to claim his fifth Tour title.
Lucas Herbert claimed his maiden European Tour title, taking out the Dubai Desert Classic for his first professional win.

Tennis: Barty and Kyrgios lead local charge at Australian Open
World number 1 Ash Barty is leading the Australian charge at the Australian Open, winning her round of 16 matchup to set up a quarter-final rematch with Petra Kvitova, who knocked Barty out at the quarter-final stage in 2019.
Barty secured her place in the final eight with a three-set victory over American Alison Riske, 6-3 1-6 6-4 before going on to become the first Australian woman in 36 years to reach the Australian Open singles semifinals after a quarterfinal win against No.7 seed Petra Kvitova.
On the men’s side, Nick Kyrgios went down in a scintillating four-set match against world number 1 Rafael Nadal in the round of 16.
Kyrgios, the last Australian remaining in the men’s draw, pushed the Spanish champion to the edge in the tight 6-3 3-6 7-6(6) 7-6(4) loss.

Rugby: Bronze and fourth in Hamilton 7s
The Australian teams were both in the medal hunt, with the men beating England 33-21 to win bronze with the women falling just short, going down to France 19-14.
Both teams showcased exciting highs throughout the weekend - Emilee Cherry making a scintillating comeback from having her first child, scoring two tries in her first game back, while Lewis Holland celebrated his 50th tournament by becoming Australia’s highest ever try scorer after bagging his 110th World Series try.
Both teams will look to be right in the medal mix again as the 7s series comes home, with Sydney 7s kicking off this Saturday.

Swimming: Lee and Sloman crowned national open water champions
Kareena Lee and Nick Sloman have defended their national titles in the 10km open water swim at Brighton Beach.
Lee clocked 2.02.28 to win her second straight title, while Noosa teammate Sloman claimed his third successive national crown in 1.55.49.
Lee has already secured selection to make her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 with her top 10 finish in last year’s world titles, while the men’s open water championship results play a key part in athletes’ journeys towards potential Tokyo qualification.
Swimming Australia have selected the four top finishers – Sloman, Nicholas Rollo, Hayden Cotter and Jack Wilson to progress to the next stage of their selection process, to represent Australia at the Marathon Swim Series in Doha in three weeks.
The key qualification event to earn a quota spot is the Tokyo 2020 open water qualification event in Fukuoka from 30-31 May.

Hockey: Mixed start for Hockeyroos and Kookaburras in Sydney
The opening round of the 2020 FIH Pro League in Sydney saw four incredibly close matches, with the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras playing Belgium twice in their weekend double-header.
The Hockeyroos won their first game 3 (4) – 3 (2) in a penalty shootout, after only equalising in the last second of the match, before Belgium turned the tables to win a 1 (3) – 1 (1) shootout victory on Sunday.
The Kookaburras came up against a red-hot Belgium team who have reclaimed number one ranking in the world, going down 4-2 on Sunday after a penalty shootout loss 2 (4) – 2 (2) on Saturday.

Athletics: Patterson jumps Tokyo qualifier with equal PB
Rio 2016 high jumper Eleanor Patterson jumped an equal PB and Tokyo qualifier of 1.96m at the ACT Championships.
The jump equals her PB set in 2013, highlighting a great return to form for the 2014 Commonwealth Games champion.
