Sailing – World Champ bronze for Nacra sailors

Rio 2016 silver medallists Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin were back on the global podium, securing bronze at the Nacra, 49er and 49er FX World Championships in Auckland.

Despite a tough final day of racing, the pair had done enough in earlier days to secure their podium position in the Nacra fleet.

Brothers Will and Sam Phillips finished as the top ranked Australians in 49er class, in 15th, while Amelia Stabback and Caitlin Elks were top ranked 49er FX sailors, finishing in 26th.

Australian results at the 2018 World Championships has already secured the Tokyo 2020 quota spots for Nacra and 49er FX. With the 15th finish in Auckland short of the result needed to earn a quota spot, the 49er crews will next look to the 2020 World Championships in Geelong in February for another chance to earn a Tokyo quota spot for Australia.
