What is the Cross Country Team Sprint?
Australia's men's and women's Team Sprint teams will be looking to make history by making it through to the finals on Wednesday night.
CROSS COUNTRY SKIING: Australia's men's and women's Team Sprint teams will be looking to make history by making it through to the finals on Wednesday night.

Jess Yeaton and Barbara Jezersek will team up in the women's event while Callum Watson and Phill Bellingham will line up in the men's.

But what exactly does a cross country team sprint race involve?

At these Games the event will be contested in the Freestyle technique. This method sees athletes ski with their skis on a wider angle as they push forward, similar to the motion in ice skating. When athletes climb hills this angle becomes wider.

The women's event will see the athletes complete a 1.2km course while the men will go around on a 1.5km course.

Both the men's and women's events see athletes complete three legs of the course tapping their teammate after each lap to tag them in.

There are two semi-finals with the top two teams from each progressing. The six fastest teams from the third to eighth ranked teams in each semi will also move through to the ten-team final.

The first across the line in the final will be crowned Olympic Champions.
