Williams inspires in East Arnhem Land
It might be almost five years on from winning Paralympic gold in London but Annabelle Williams is still doing her best to inspire Australians to do everything they can to achieve their goals.

It might be almost five years on from winning Paralympic gold in London but Annabelle Williams is still doing her best to inspire Australians to do everything they can to achieve their goals.

Now the legal counsel for the Australian Olympic Committee, Williams was a part of Australia Day celebrations for the fifth year in a row, this time heading to Nhulunbuy in East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory.

It was there she got to speak to the Yolngu Aboriginal people who have called the area home for at least 40,000 years.

“I feel very honored to be invited to speak in Nhulunbuy as an Australian Day Ambassador,” Williams said.

“It was a wonderful celebration of the community, the land and the diversity.”

Williams delivered an address to the Nhulunbuy community, officiated citizenship ceremonies, presented community awards and participated in the community fun run.

She also got the chance to speak at the local swim club, ‘The Gove Barras’ and took them for a swimming lesson.

“It was a privilege to have the opportunity to speak to the kids in the swim club and hopefully inspire them to achieve their goals.

“Nhulunbuy is a slice of paradise – it boasts spectacular beaches and beautiful scenery.”

Having first become an Australia Day ambassador in 2013, Williams has travelled to Wagga Wagga (2013), Gulargambone (2014), Parkes (2015), Bathurst (2016) and now Nhulunbuy.
