Kiara Dean (gold) and Breanna Collins (bronze) junior shooting world champs 2022

The Australian shotgun team have begun their ISSF World Championships campaign with two podium finishers, claiming the gold and bronze medals in the first event of the competition.

Junior Australian women's trap shooters Kiara Dean (gold) and Breanna Collins (bronze) secured medals after qualifying third and fifth for the semi-final respectively.

In the semi-final Kiara scored 21/25 and Breanna 20/25 to qualify for the medal match.

Breanna hit 19 out of 25 targets to win the bronze medal for Australia in the medal match, while Kiara Dean and Ting Han of China were tied at 30/35 and need a shot off to be separated, where Kiara came away with gold for Australia.

Kiara and Breanna’s medal wins have gotten the Australian shotgun team off to an incredible start. They will now compete in the junior trap mixed team event on Friday as Kiara teams up with Marco Corbo and Breanna is paired with Gabe Sensi.

The medal winners then close out their World Championships campaign in the women's junior trap team event on Saturday with fellow Aussie Molly Bretag.
