Three-time Olympian Taylor Worth closed out Australia's campaign at Yumenoshima Archery Park today, eliminated in the round of 16 by Mete Gazoz of Turkey.

Taking to the competition arena having previously advanced through two rounds of elimination matches, Worth split the points one each in the first set before Gazoz delivered three consecutive tens to take the lead 3-1.

He continued his form to win 7-1 in four sets.

Worth won bronze at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in the men’s team competition and was today proud to once again don the green and gold on the most illustrious of stages.

“This is never how you want to finish the Games, but it is what it is. Mete is a great athlete, and I wish him all the best for the future,” Worth said.

“I’m always proud to represent Australia to the best of my ability. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough just then, a couple of mistakes are all it takes at the top end, but this is my third Olympic Games, my third top-ten finish and I’m proud of that.

Worth confirmed he left it all out there, drawing his arrow in a way that reflected the plan set by him and his coach.

“I did everything to the best of my ability in the conditions I had, and based on how I was feeling. I just hope that I represented myself and my country as best as I could out there.”

Worth was joined by Ryan Tyack, Dave Barnes and Alice Ingley in the Archery competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Tyack progressed to the 1/16 elimination before being defeated just prior to the race for medals today. Both Barnes and Ingley competed in the 1/32 round before exiting the competition.

Australia has competed in archery at every Olympic Games since Munich 1972, with Simon Fairweather winning gold at Sydney 2000. Australia has also won two bronze medals.
