About Phoebe
Phoebe Heaydon is one of Australia’s most promising young alpine ski racers, combining technical precision, competitive instinct, and a deep commitment to continual improvement. After impressing at the 2025 World Junior Championships and gaining experience on the senior tours, she now gets her chance at the Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games.
Currently based in Edwards, Colorado, she represents Australia on the international stage while training and studying in one of the world’s most competitive alpine environments. A graduate of Vail Mountain School, with early schooling at Reddam House in Sydney, Phoebe has grown up between two hemispheres, a dual influence that has shaped her identity as both a proud Australian athlete and a product of the elite North American ski racing system.
Phoebe began skiing at just three years old and entered her first competitions by age four. Inspired by watching her older brother race, she quickly developed a love for speed, challenge, and the relentless pursuit of improvement.
That early passion evolved into a lifelong commitment, eventually leading her to the Australian National Alpine Ski Team and to international competition across Europe and North America. Today, she is ranked among Australia’s top female alpine skiers and competes primarily in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom.
Her recent seasons have marked a significant step forward in her career. In 2025, Phoebe delivered one of her strongest international performances to date at the FIS World Junior Championships in Tarvisio, Italy, where she placed third in the second run of the slalom, a result she considers one of the highlights of her career, and finished 17th overall.
This breakthrough confirmed her ability to compete with the world’s best junior athletes and strengthened her ambitions for the 2026 Junior World Championships and future Olympic qualification.
Phoebe made her FIS World Cup debut on 15 November 2025 in Levi, Finland, in slalom opening her 2025–26 season. In a field of 84 of the world’s top technical skiers, she recorded the best Australian women’s result in the first run, finishing 63rd.
For Phoebe, stepping into the start gate at a World Cup was a dream realised and a milestone that reflects years of disciplined training and steady progression through the FIS ranks. Across December and January, she contested FIS and European Cup slalom and giant slalom events in Italy and Austria. And the Flachau (AUT) World Cup in slalom.
As she continues to build her results reflect not only her physical development but also the mental resilience she has worked hard to cultivate. Phoebe openly acknowledges that self-belief has been one of her greatest challenges, learning to trust her preparation, manage pressure, and rebound from difficult training days or disappointing races. Through dedicated mental skills work, she has strengthened her confidence and sharpened her focus, emerging more motivated than ever.
Phoebe’s inspiration comes from athletes who embody composure and humility under pressure, particularly Australian Formula 1 driver Oscar Piastri. She admires his calm, measured approach and strives to bring the same poise to her own racing.
Away from the racecourse, Phoebe is happiest outdoors. Living in the mountains of Colorado gives her endless opportunities to mountain bike, road bike, hike with her dog, and play pickleball. She also loves cooking and baking, passions she hopes to continue developing alongside her athletic career.
Looking ahead, Phoebe is focused on consolidating her place among the world’s best young technical skiers, building toward major international events, and continuing her rise through the Europa Cup and World Cup circuits. Her journey is defined by determination, adaptability, and a genuine love for the sport, qualities that continue to propel her toward the next level of alpine racing.
