A Ten Year Runway of Opportunity for Australia

 

The AOC’s commitment to this opportunity has never been stronger, with a SEQ Games presenting the opportunity to boost jobs and growth as Australia recovers from the COVID crisis.

With an announcement on the Games’ host expected in 2022, the prospect of a ten-year runway into 2032 is exciting.

Australia is set to host a raft of major global sporting events in that period. The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in 2022, the UCI World Road Championships (cycling) in 2022, the FIFA Women’s Football World Cup in 2023, great potential for Australia to host the World Masters Games in Perth in 2025 and the men’s Rugby World Cup in 2027 along with the Netball World Cup in the same year.

There’s no question the world looks at Australia as a sports-loving country, capable of delivering the biggest events to the highest standard. We are viewed as a very safe pair of hands and of course, we are a wonderful destination for sports fans from around the world.

The Olympic Candidature Leadership Group (OLCG), consisting of Federal, State and Local Government representation along with the AOC, will reset as a united team once we have seen our way through the current public health crisis.

The Australian Olympic Committee acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of this nation.
