Inspiring our young leaders: Australian Olympic Change-Maker 2020

We can build a better world through sport, particularly right now. The Australian Olympic Change-Maker is the embodiment of this philosophy being played out in communities across Australia.

In 2020, more than 800 nominations for Australian Olympic Change-Maker have been received from schools across the entire country – in each state and territory.

The program recognises and gives voice to students who demonstrate the Olympic spirit and who show leadership by driving positive change in their school or local communities.

The nominations have highlighted how students have adapted to our COVID world.

These students have been leading online workouts for classes or teammates, virtual challenges, online buddy systems, breakfast club workouts, refugee coaching, volunteering, radio hosting and simply providing daily doses of positivity and optimism amongst many other things.

In line with our times, the AOC adapted the Olympic Change-Maker program in 2020 and is delighted to present the inaugural National Olympic Change-Maker virtual summit on Thursday 17 September at 12.30 (AEST), connecting students and schools around Australia together in one major event.

Hosted by Brooke Hanson OAM (Swimming, Athens 2004 - gold & silver medallist) the virtual summit will celebrate the young leaders nominated for this year’s Award.

The summit will feature many Olympians as we delve into discussion about leadership, being a positive force and overcoming challenges in creating change as well as gaining firsthand insight into our athletes’ preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

You can watch live Thursday 17 September on Facebook and YouTube.
