Alisa Camplin has won her second consecutive aerial skiing World Cup title after taking a silver medal in Spindleruv Mlyn.

Alisa Camplin has won her second consecutive aerial skiing World Cup title after taking a silver medal in Spindleruv Mlyn.

Chinese skier Nina Li won the Czech Republic event from Camplin and fellow Flying Kangaroos team-mate Lydia Ierodiaconou, but Camplin's six victories and three podium places for the season clinched the title with one event – at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games site in Sestriere – still to come.

Ierodiaconou’s bronze medal in Spindleruv secured second place on the standings, the second year in a row that the two Australians have claimed the aerial skiing quinella.

Australian skiers have now won five of the past six women’s World Cup aerial skiing titles, Jacqui Cooper winning in 1999, 2000 and 2001, and Camplin collecting the 2003 and 2004 crowns.

Li's score of 200.74 was a personal best for the Chinese skier, while Ierodiaconou also posted a pb with 195.07 points. Camplin recorded yet another 100 points plus jump score for the season on her way to a total of 198.26 points.

“I would have had to have a real disaster not to win the title, but it’s still a relief to wrap it up,” Camplin said.

“I really wanted to produce a respectable performance here, not win the title but miss out on being on the podium.”

“I was a bit disappointed at being second today, and being so close to equalling the record of seven wins in a season, but I can’t let that worry me.”

“It’s been a long season, and the last few events have been spread out, so it’s been hard to get through them.”

“And Lydia has been chasing me all the way, keeping me on my toes.”

“It will be good to go to the World Cup finals in Sestriere without any pressure, but of course I’d like to do well there to finish off the season.”

Australia’s third team member, Liz Gardner, finished in 13th place, missing the landing on her second jump, a triple twisting double somersault that she has only performed a few times in competition.

With the final event in Italy still to come, Camplin sits at 848 points on the World Cup standings, with Ierodiaconou on 647 and Russian skier Anna Zukal on 397 points.
