All go for Meares at Track World Titles

Anna Meares will go into her first world track cycling championships in two years with a simple philosophy - to win.

Anna Meares will go into her first world track cycling championships in two years with a simple philosophy - to win.

The queen of world track cycling says the year out after her sprint gold medal at the London Olympics is a distant memory as she presses on with the buildup to the 2016 Games.

Rio will be the end of the 30-year-old's remarkable cycling career and she has no time to waste.

"I never want to go into a race with an attitude or a belief other than `I can win it'," Meares told AAP.

"It's not on my radar or acceptance level to have anything but that.

"So no, I feel like I'm well past the whole `come back from the sabbatical' and all that sort of stuff.

"I'm not going to win every race ... it's just not realistic or fair.

"But I'm going to go in and absolutely put in my best."

Meares will only compete in individual events at the worlds - the sprint, keirin and 500m time trial.

The Australian sprint program took the dramatic step of not entering the team sprint at these championships.

This time two years ago, Meares and Kaarle McCulloch had won the previous three world titles and were unbeatable in the event.

But McCulloch is injured and no Australian combination has been competitive enough in the last few months.

Meares admits it is tough to pass up on the team sprint, but points out it will keep herself and rising star Stephanie Morton fresher for the individual events at the worlds.

"I'm trusting the coaching staff and the decisions they're making on that," Meares said.

"It's hard to get your head around at times, but it's an added event and an added level of fatigue because it is the first event.

"We've trialled some different combinations with Kaarle being out this season ... and they haven't worked very well."

Meares has shown strong form in the last few weeks, breaking her own 500m world record late last year and winning two gold medals at the Australian championships.

She is also regaining race hardness, but Meares looks and sounds ready as the buildup to Rio starts building momentum.

"I'm in a good space - I guess that's a good way to put it," she said.

"Maybe it comes with a little bit of maturity as well, maybe it comes with a little bit of life experience, maybe it comes from having a bit of a break and looking at my position and my sport from an external view.

"I've gained some perspective and I appreciate the limited opportunity that I feel I have left for my career.

"I'm a little bit calmer in my analysis and approach - I have a little bit more emotional control about things."

The Australian sprint team will fly to Perth on Sunday for a training camp before heading to Cali.
