Dale Begg-Smith added a bronze medal to his season tally, finishing third on the Salt Lake 2002 moguls skiing course in Deer Valley, Utah, as team-mate Nick Fisher moved a step closer to Torino qualification.

Begg-Smith qualified in fifth place in the elimination round, then stepped it up in the night final to capture the fifth World Cup podium of his career.

The 20-year-old Olympic Winter Institute skier won gold in the second event of the season in Oberstdorf, Germany, in December.

The latest result lifts Begg-Smith to the number two world ranking behind the Deer Valley gold medallist Toby Dawson of the United States, something else to celebrate in four days time when he turns 21.

It also adds to his status as one of Australia's strongest medal prospects for the Torino 2006 Games.

Dawson posted 27.34 points to win the gold from Finnish veteran and Salt Lake 2002 gold medallist Janne Lahtela on 26.48. Begg-Smith received 26.33 points from the judges.

None of the other Australians made the final, but Nick Fisher did collect the second of three top 60 per cent of field results he needs to qualify for selection to the Australian Olympic team by finishing in 22nd place, his best result of the season.

The moguls World Cup circuit now heads to Lake Placid, New York, for a double header event next weekend.
