ARCHERY: Australia’s 2016 Olympic archery line-up will become a little clearer this week, with all the contenders competing at the Shanghai World Cup in China.
Australia has qualified quotas for three men and one woman for the Rio Olympics, but the final make-up of the team won’t be decided until next month.
Four men have been battling it out for the three positions on offer, and with the quartet all competing at the Shanghai Open their final results will go a long way towards determining the final Olympic team.
Three-time Olympian Matt Gray, 2012 Olympian Taylor Worth, former world indoor champion Ryan Tyack and Victorian Alec Potts are all in the mix.
In the women’s draw, Queensland’s Semra Ferguson secured Australia’s Olympic spot at the Oceania qualifiers in Tonga earlier this month. Ferguson just missed securing the quota spot at the 2015 World Championships.
She’ll be joined in Shanghai by Sunshine Coast pair, 16-year-old Ella Byrne and 21-year-old Chloe Grabs, and Western Australia’s Alice Ingley.
The qualification rounds of the Shanghai World Cup start on Wednesday with the Teams and Individual competition running through until the weekend.
The final Olympic Nomination Camp will be held 20-22 May and after that Archery Australia will meet and nominate athletes to the AOC for selection.
