ARCHERY: Australian archer Taylor Worth has proven he will be a force to be reckoned with come Rio 2016, after thrashing world No 1 Brady Ellison (USA) on his way into the top 16 in the men’s individual archery competition on the hallowed turf of the Lords Cricket Ground.
However in the following 1/8 round two days later, the 21-year-old went down in a thrilling one arrow shoot off against seventh-ranked China's Dai Xiaoxiang of China.
Coming into the competition, Perth-based Worth was in the best form of his young career, and shot brilliantly in the windy conditions against his higher ranked rivals.
In the women’s competition, Elisa Barnard went down to seventh-ranked Carina Christiansen of Denmark 7-3 in her opening match.
The Sydney teenager entered the opening elimination round as the underdog but commenced the match with a confidence boosting win in the first set, however the Dane's experience and consistency prevailed, taking out the final two sets to secure victory 7 points to 3.
For both archers who made their Olympic debut in London, the experience and atmosphere was life changing. Highlights including a personal tour around Lords by Athlete Liaison Officer and cricket great Steve Waugh, a ride on the London Eye and a meet and greet with ‘Prince Charles and Camilla’.
