RUGBY SEVENS: The Australian Men’s Sevens team now know their opponents at the Rio 2016 Olympics after Spain thrillingly took the twelfth and final spot in the final repecharge overnight.
Andy Friend’s side will be in Pool B alongside second seeds South Africa, France and hosts Brazil for the competition that will take place between 9-11th August at Deodoro Stadium.
Spain stunned the Sevens world in Monaco in the early hours of Monday morning as they saw off Ireland (12-7) before defeating World Series core teams Russia (17-12) in the Cup Semi-Final and then shockingly Samoa – winners of the Paris Sevens just last month – with a try after the full-time siren (22-19).
In Pool A, top seeds Fiji will play in the same group as USA, Argentina and Spain while in Pool C will see New Zealand, Great Britain, Kenya and Japan face off against each other.
The Australian Women’s Sevens will have their opponents at the Rio 2016 Olympics confirmed next weekend when the final repecharge takes place in Dublin.
